The Cyber Magician

Vernon is a magician living in a cyberpunk/Victorian world. He can see other worlds using his tarot cards. He is wearing a top hat, has long dark hair and a beard. He has some piercings on the face and strange runic tattoos on the torso and arms. He has a cyber forearm and his cybernetic eye helps him to see through dimensions.

I wanted something badass for this character, he is a sort of Doctor Strange living in a cyberpunk world.

Process

Here are the first very rough sketches and pose tests

I imported a Daz model into Blender. It is a very good starting point to develop the character.

And modified the face in blender. Also changed his eye colors with personalised purple colour and started to add a piece of metal around the cybernetic eye.

At this point, I knew I needed a top hat, so I modelled it.

I also knew I needed a pair of boots. Right, I modelled it too !

Don't ask me why, but I am very proud of these boots !

I was asked to create a mechanical cyber arm.

Here I tried multiple angles when the character was posed.

Tried a presentation with the name also in 3D.

I stopped here, because in my mind the project was over. But I was not really happy with the 3Dishness of the result. I decided to put it aside for some time and come back to it later.

After a time, I decided to rethink the character and did some sketches with cool poses.

Helping myself with references of magicians with cards was very helpfull.

Then I found this pose of fortuneteller thinking on tarot cards spread on the table. I knew it was the kind of image I was looking for this character.

I corrected the first top hat and modelled details like googles

He needed a cool leather force bracelet, nothing impossible with 3D, let's model this !

And continue with all his accessories like this super cool armor ring

Adding a cool silver Ankh cross haning on a chain

The table before him needed a cool incense burner, pretty fun to model this one !

To make this scene more believable, I had to add a lot of details and objetcs. I created a majority of these objects, some of them are ready made models to help me earn some time on the process.

Final image : A lot of paintover and corrections to get the needed result. Vernon has finally come to life, beware, he can see you !
